This and That

This
This might be worth checking out. Tin Man (you may recognise the character’s name from The Wizard of Oz) is a new mini-series about to be shown on the Sci Fi Channel in the US. After spending time looking around the website, I’m hoping it comes to the Sci Fi Channel (or any other channel) in the UK. It looks to be a lot darker than the original book/film, but that doesn’t stop me wanting to sing “We’re off to see the wizard….”!
A colleague recently went to see Wicked the musical in London and has been raving about it, so I’ve got a bit of a feeling for all things Oz at the moment. I’d love to see Wicked and from what I’ve seen and heard, it’s well worth going to see.
That
I’ve been looking through the 100+ photos I took at Take That’s concert on the 17th and decided to upload two or three more.
The rest can be found over at Flickr and here.

Thanks for your vidit Nikki-Ann….AWAY FROM HER is a very beautiful film. If you get a chance…It is very much worth watching.
Since you are “into” all things “OZ”, there is a wonderful book called “WAS” by Geoff Ryman…I don’t often recomend books, but this one is fascinating. It is about “Dorothy” through this writer’s eyes….A Beautiful Book…..
I’ve seen “WICKED” and it is very interesting…another ‘take’ on those characters…..BUT, nothing will ever come close to the brilliance and perfection of the original “WIZARD OF OZ”….! With the gorgepus Judy Garland; The Gorgeous Musical Score by that GENIUS Harold Arlen and his lyric writer, E.Y. Harburg—these men were Giants! And that cast…..Jack Haley, Bert Kahr and Ray Bolger…AND the amazing Frank Morgan….(”Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain..”)…A perfect film, in every way.

That hat!! LOL!
I have to say..they must be really lenient about photography at concerts in the UK, because for most major bands its a huge risk to not get your camera confiscated or at least the memory card confiscated here.

Great photo. I’ll have to look through the flickr set.
I’ve been to a few UK gigs recently with the full camera police present so I’ve temporarily abandoned more than a cell phone snap. Prince had full blown security a few months ago at the Dome with those laserbeam torch thingys. Nitin Sawhney had ‘No Photograph’ signs everywhere. I got searched at the Hammersmith Apollo for one gig and had to hand in a (fairly small) camera till the end, at another gig there no-one cared. Rufus Wainwright at Birmingham Symphony Hall had people in the aisles proactively telling peopl to desist, Polar Bear was the opposite (small unknown band?) and I got some pix near the front - I think I could have walked on stage… Kate Walsh was ok. Little Noise (Young, Faulkner et al) was verboten but some people did anyway - I made do with cameraphone.
I got stopped on the way in to an Open Air gig in Exeter and had to take the (ahem) slightly large camera back to the car - I always think Open Air should be ‘fair game’. No probs in Hyde Park or Wembley Stadium during the summer. Gosh, I feel a post about this might be in order!
And by the way, Wicked is er ‘wicked’. You must.
